FAQ

Questions before you download.

Short answers about cost, files, privacy and AI. Still unsure? Write to us.

1Getting started

Is Staten really free?
Yes. Every analysis and every editor is free, with no time limit and no watermark. You pay only if you choose to use the AI assistant in the cloud. See pricing.
Do I need an account?
Not for Staten: download, install and start. Only the optional AI assistant needs an account, made with your e-mail and a code, without a password.
Which systems does it run on?
Windows 10 and 11 (signed installer), macOS 12 and newer on Apple silicon and Intel, and Linux as an AppImage. Staten is a desktop app, so it does not run on phones.
Which languages?
English and Serbian.

2Your files and results

Can I open my SPSS files?
Yes. Staten opens .sav files with their labels, Stata .dta, and Excel or CSV files, even with messy headers over several rows.
Can I take my results to Word?
Yes. Staten builds an APA report you take to Word, and graphs, tables and text stay linked to the data, so you can still edit them later.
Can tables follow my journal’s style?
Yes. Pick a publication style (APA, AMA, Vancouver, Harvard and others) once for the project, or per table and graph; captions and numbering follow.
Which analyses are included?
From t-tests to mixed models, survival, diagnostic accuracy (ROC) and text analysis, with assumption checks next to each model. The atlas shows every one, by the question it answers.

3Privacy and AI

Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files stay on your computer. With the assistant off, Staten makes no connections and has no telemetry; maps download tiles only when you ask.
What does the AI assistant see?
Never rows or cells. You choose Strict, Standard or Results, and you can read each message before it is sent. Numbers are always computed by Staten, never by the model. Read more.
Can I use AI without the cloud?
Yes. With Ollama, or with imported vectors, nothing leaves your computer.
What do I tell my ethics committee?
“No participant data leaves my computer; I approve and can undo every step.”

4Paying for AI

How does AI pricing work?
Tokens, no subscription: $10 buys 100 tokens, and the more you buy the more tokens each dollar gets (the curve). Tokens never expire. Each step shows what it cost. Refunds.
Who sees my card details?
Only Paddle, our payment provider (Merchant of Record), which is certified to the highest card-security standard (PCI DSS Level 1). Staten never receives or stores card numbers.
We are a department. Is there a team option?
Yes, Lab: central billing, strict privacy for everyone, help with ethics and DPIA paperwork, and workshops. Write to us.
